Steps to Take if a rental instrument is “lost” or “stolen”

First things first, if you know that without a doubt, you’ve had a break-in to your vehicle or house and the instrument is missing, please file a police report right away – you will need to call Music World and we will get verify for you the serial # of the instrument.

However, if there’s not any concern of a break-in – please proceed to the following steps:

1. Call or email your band or orchestra director! Most lost instruments are found by working with your teacher or the school office to locate your instrument. Remember that many other families rent from us and other students may share the same instrument case, it may look alike and get swapped by accident. If you’ve exhausted this option with the teacher and the school, move on to step 2!

2. Check with these other places – friends house, district bus barn (if they ride the bus) ex-spouse or family relatives. If you’ve searched high and low, everywhere that it could be, move on to step 3!

3. Call Music World – please call us at either location and let us know you’ve exhausted the steps above. Once we can verify your lost instrument scenario, we will provide you with the serial # for your instrument and have your file a police report with local law enforcement.

4. Once you have a police report number case, bring it in and we will issue an exchange to replace the missing one.
