The Breedlove Custom Steelhead Concerto – Is a tribute to the beautiful northwest & Washington State Fish, The Steelhead. This is one of the most popular fish for recreational fishing. An ocean going fish that returns regularly to our rivers to spawn, we wanted to design a guitar that represented the power and beauty of this fish in a musical instrument. That is why the Concerto body shape was used for this design. With a wider lower bout, slightly smaller sound hole and slightly deeper body, you can feel the power of this guitar as it moves the air when you strum. Yet, it is still balanced throughout the tonal range. We picked these woods out on our annual Breedlove Custom Build Trip at the factory, in Bend OR. The woods are Ovangkol for the sides and back, (along with matching overlay on head stock) and a Sitka Spruce top. If you look closely at the back, a very specific piece of wood was chosen to represent the visual aesthetic of a river – the figuring mimics the natural rippling and riffles of a river that you commonly see near tail-outs and heads of pools. (a common resting place for Steelhead!) The tonal response of Ovangkol is very similar to East Indian Rosewood, in which it projects the bass notes very well and has a full sound with a bit more clarity. The Sitka Spruce, sourced from Alaska, has a very even, balanced response and is a very strong wood. It’s mostly free of overtones and projects mostly fundamental, pure notes.

How about the detail on the steelhead at the 12th fret!? Steelhead trout have a gray/olive spotted back from head to tail with scales that shine with flecks of silver. This dark back is contrasted by an intense white belly – the two colors are separated by a hint of opalescent pink – The inlay masters at Breedlove used green gold shell for the back and fins, and for mid-section the beautiful sea snail that enhances the opalescent pink. It’s truly a work of art and the detail is quite fantastic.

Top it off with rosewood binding, an LR BAGGS Anthem mic/pickup blender system, and a deluxe hard shell case.
